Hey guys it’s been awhile, but I’m here... lool.
So it’s been on my heart for a while to talk about healthy living and I’ve, admittedly, have been trying to avoid it. I took time to put my preaching into practice and I have started my new healthy lifestyle a month ago.
So as a kid I’m sure it was a nightmare for your mum to get you to eat your veggies and drink your water, yep I know water was always my issue. But now having my own children has put a lot of things into perspective.
Being a parent you have so much to think about in regards to raising your children and making sure they have the best and to live the best way they can. To teach them right from wrong and showing them the difference between good and bad, the list goes on and on and on.
Like an epiphany it hit me, how can I expect my children to do what they don’t see mummy or daddy doing. Did your parents ever tell you “Do as I say, not as I do?” UNFAIR right loool. I heard that a lot, but it doesn’t help.
Children are like our little shadows, they follow us everywhere and want to do everything we do, and have a little nibble or sip of whatever we are consuming. They are extremely curious, and whatever is good enough to go in mummy or daddy’s mouth surely can’t be that bad... right?
Being a parent on the go or a general busy person on the move constantly, it is so convenient to just head to the nearest McDonald’s or the chicken shop or even the corner shop to get your quick bites. I mean so yummy and quick and easy right, but at the same time we are paying a price and that’s our health. Is it worth it? The harm we are causing to ourselves and potentially our babies, all for the sake of convenience?
We really have to do our research on health complications that certain foods can introduce us to such as... heart disease, high blood pressure, liver and kidney failure. If that’s what we deal with as adults in our big old bodies imagine what’s happening inside of a child.
O please don’t get me wrong there's absolutely nothing wrong with having these things as a treat or on random occasions but as an ‘everyday 3-4 times a week thing’ is not the best.
Eating healthy I notice can actually be fun and its quicker than I thought, I’m trying new things and making more of a bigger varieties of meals....ill post pictures at the end of my new way of eating. Including my kids in it is amazing, seeing how they interact and adjust to new food. Example of a healthy day in my home can consist of:
Breakfast- any cereal of the kids choice or whole wheat toast.
Mummy and Daddy will have a healthy cereal or a fruit salad. I have a sweet tooth and when having cereal id kill it with sugar so I decided to substitute sugar for pure, natural honey... its healthier and I find I use a lot less.
Lunch – sweet potato chips with a grilled burger in whole wheat bun.
Dinner- mixed vegetable in a cream cheese sauce... cream cheese sauce???? Can’t be healthy????? But it is when you use low fat crème fraiche and a light Philadelphia of your choice, it taste amazing. You can even do that same meal with chicken or prawns, healthy eating is so versatile.
Dessert- fruit salad covered in low fat yoghurt or a Pavlov.
Instead of sweets and chocolate, try kids with a packet of raisins or dried fruit. Dried fruit coated in yoghurt, or a fruit cereal bar, trust me they don’t know the difference. Make a deal with your kids that after every glass of water they drink they can have a juice. (Bribing isn’t always bad, use it to your advantage lool ).
Containers are a great investment, especially ones you can take out in your handbag/back pack...so no excuses for naughty picking when out and about loool. It's also helpful to cook enough food for two days.. Mummies it surely gives us a day off cooking.
Honestly we can really just use our imagination and create a meal that you would usually enjoy that would make you feel bad or bloated, but just substitute a few things for low fat or lights and honestly you will see and feel the difference. Make it fun as well; eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring.
Try and be more active, dancing around the house whilst doing chores, running with your kids, getting off the bus a stop or two earlier and walk the rest. Every little helps and trust me for the parents your kid will love it, especially if you involve them and let them help prep meals and let them have little tastes of things as you cook, let them feel textures and see the different colours on their plate. Kids love a colourful and fun plate of food. Kids can be awkward with big changes so jus wean them in and change things little by little.
Honestly I can go on and on but I won’t loool. But please do your research and check out the benefit s of certain meals and foods and WATER loool. And multi vitamins are also helpful to make sure you and your family are not missing any important nutrients that you may not be getting throughout the day.
1 Corinthian 6:19-20 – 19.Dont you realize your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and was given to you by God? You don’t belong to yourself. 20. For God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.
There you go, I believe enough is said. I can only leave it there and the choice has to be yours. I pray that you read this and that it ministers to you, to make that change and to take the best care of your temple and your little princes and princesses also.
Stay Blessed.
